I want to explain this on the podcast because it's super important to the data that we're collecting on this podcast. Every bet I make is for $5.

Originally it was gonna be for $25, but at five bets a game, I'm not spending $150 a week. That's money I could be spending on weed and food. So $5 a game is where I'm gonna be at. Now,

you can make good bets and have a good record for the year, but units is measuring how much money you actually won or lost, right? So

if you-- Because the way you do bets is a lot of times you have to put more money on the bet than you're gonna get back in return. So let's say the spread is negative 113. That means you have to put $113 down to win.

So if you win the bet, you win your 113 bet plus the $100. If you lose the bet, you lose the 113. That $13 difference in the minus 113 is the vig, the juice. That's the money that the people placing the bet make.

So what they're trying to do is they're trying to get money on even lines. So if they get $100 on one line and $100 on another line and they pay each other off, they collect that $13 from both sides.

And then that $13 that they get from the loser becomes a profit they made for balancing both of those bets.

So when you're looking at your numbers for the end of the year, it's super important that you understand the units, so you understand the percentage of what you win by.

I'm gonna explain this based on our old information of $25 bets. I'm gonna read it off so that you understand why the units are so important. Every bet I make is gonna be for $25, which equals one unit.

So what is the fuck that-- What is, what... Ugh. What the fuck does that mean? If the odds are 113, a $25 bet profits about $22.12. So the result is a plus.88 unit.

If I lost a bet, it's one unit, because one unit stands for the $25 for the bet. So let's do the math on a minus 113 bet. $25 divided by 113 times 100 equals the $22.12 profit.

Now, to convert that back into units, you take the $22.12 divided by the $25, and it equals plus 0.88 units. So if I win that bet at negative 13, I'm up 0.88 units.

If I lose that bet, I'm down one unit. Tracking the units lets me compare bets fairly, even though different odds pay different amounts.
